Nikon has a new nifty-fifty and it’s about as monstrous as you’d expect, with a steep price tag to match its promise of unprecedented performance. Called the NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.2 S, this bundle of glass, metal, and transistors is meant to be used with Nikon’s modern full-frame mirrorless cameras, as that Z mount reference in its name suggests. This is one of the fastest primers – and hence lenses, in general – Nikon ever released and its extremely bright aperture rating also means it will bend light in such beautiful ways that it will absolutely spoil you in terms of bokeh expectations. Seriously, expect some truly dreamy results with this thing. But don’t worry about not being able to snap back to reality, that’s what the price tag attached to the NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.2 is for. As its MSRP is set at about $2,099.99 and it may end up being even higher in the near term given how severe shortages are basically a given, what with everything that’s been happening this year and the fact this is an extremely niche product in terms of its target demographic. With that said, the NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.2 S should become available for purchase in the U.S. over the next few weeks.
