Veteran DC Comics Screenwriter Goyer Hired For ‘Batman Unburied’

Veteran DC Comics screenwriter David S. Goyer is set to pen yet another project as part of the Batman universe, a franchise so very close to his heart by now.

This time around, however, Goyer will be tackling an entirely new format because DC Comics picked him up for the role of an executive producer of Batman Unburied. The kicker is that Batman Unburied is a – podcast.

A rather special podcast, in fact, or at least a rather special attempt at the podcast format. More specifically, DC Comics will be producing this series as a Spotify exclusive, with the American multimedia giant describing the project as a narrative experience unlike any other Batman-themed creation to date.

The official announcement of Batman Unburied happened just moments ago, though the project itself has been cooking for a while now. As a reminder, it was back in June that Spotify and AT&T-owned Warner Bros. announced their exclusive content collaboration.

There are currently no plans for launching Batman Unburied on any other platform. As for this novel endeavor, DC Comics and Spotify are currently targeting a 2021 release for Batman Unburied. We will probably have to wait until at least spring before the companies provide us with a more precise launch window.

Sony Announces Long-Rumored Drone Venture Under Airpeak Brand

As one of the most diversified technology companies in the world, it is almost surprising that Sony hasn’t yet financed a serious drone venture, at least not in its number one area of expertise. Which would be the consumer electronics market, of course.

Well, that finally changes today, and in perhaps the least dramatic way possible. As Sony’s long-awaited announcement of a consumer-level foray into the world of drones appears to be a carbon copy of numerous predictions on the matter that various industry analyst have been freely sharing since at least late 2017.

To start, the Tokyo-headquartered company will be organizing the entirety of this endeavor under a new consumer drone brand called Airpeak. These aren’t completely uncharted waters for Sony, mind you, as evidenced by the existence of Aerosense.

This similar-sounding name deonotes another drone venture Sony has already been pursuing for several years in partnership with Austrian robotic specialists at ZMP.

Except that partnership had nothing to do with consumer tech and was instead focused on terrain surveying and general-purpose SaaS offerings aimed at enterprise clients and governments. With Airpeak, that niche focus is about to change in a big way, with Sony confirming plans to cater to a number of content creator demographics with its incoming aircraft.

The first Airpeak drones are expected to launch and release in the United States in the second half of 2021.

Apple Plans to Increase the Size of Batteries In iPhones

Batteries are working hard these days, and they are often overlooked during the design process as they add mass, thickness, and heat to the final product. This oversight is especially apparent with Apple’s iPhones as one of the main selling points and appointed features is the slim, sleek design. Because of this, iPhones have always had a reputation of having iffy battery life at best, but Apple seems to be working on rejuvenating their take on batteries. This move might impact the entire industry, as Apple has a history of setting new trends for its competitors. However, since the battery technology we know of today is slowly reaching its peak in terms of theoretical efficiency, Apple might need to look elsewhere to improve upon it.

Improving Battery Capacity by Giving It More Room?

Since there is so much to improve relative battery capacity, it is possible to improve it in an absolute manner by simply allocating more space within the phone to the battery unit itself. However, this change would be another controversial topic since smartphones already get packed as tightly as humanly possible if it weren’t for the so-called IPD chips. These chips have been around for a while but were exclusive to specialty hardware such as medical equipment, hearing aids, wearable heart rate monitors, and similar, where saving space is the key priority. The acronym stands for Integrated Passive Device, and it is an upcoming concept that will enable peripheral chips to be significantly smaller overall, allowing room for the expansion of batteries.

With this approach, Apple might develop a solution for iPhone’s and iPad’s battery drain, which is notoriously strong, especially during gaming sessions. Timing for this move might be perfect as gaming on mobile devices becomes increasingly popular, especially with HTML5 allowing for even more choices with embedded online gaming and betting. A typical casino gaming website nowadays features a lot of content that can get accessed for free and at any point in time, so having that extra bit of battery oomph will undoubtedly come in handy.

IPD’s Impact on the Industry

Apple’s IPD implementation into the manufacturing of iPhones and iPads will provide another level to design optimization which aligns with the current market’s demands. By pinpointing the issue itself, lackluster battery life, Apple will make the iPhone nearly perfect if the concept reaches their expectations. Since the IPD technology has been around for some time, other manufacturers might take the hint and take the same route. However, repairability scores might take hits as IPDs are tailor-made to fit that specific device. There is a strong case that a peripheral component that would otherwise be compatible between two machines might no longer be compatible. A possible outcome would be higher prices for peripheral parts that are linked with a single device exclusively. Still, when considering the final product in its respect, the benefits certainly outweigh the cons.

HP Expanding 3D Printing Business As Ambitions Keep Growing

Hewlett Packard (HP), one of the most recognizable electronics brands in the world and a household name in the U.S. tech industry, today announced perhaps its most ambitious diversification effort in recent memory.

Namely, the company is planning to double down on its 3D printing operations in the sense that it will finally attempt doing what pretty much every even remotely relevant player in the 3D printing space dreads – testing the scalability of the business model that already cost more than anyone imagined it would.

Yes, 3D printing technologies, as amazing as they are, aren’t the most scalable solution the manking ever devised, so any attempt at scaling up such operations tends to be met with skepticism. The same holds true for HP’s latest announcement. But needless to say, if anyone has the expertise to pull of 3D printing on such an unprecedentedly massive scale, that would simply have to be HP, at this point.

As a result of this move, expect the firm to soon begin offering more robust, data-driven consulting services, additional B2B SaaS plans, and everything else that usually goes with such a riskey, potentially hugely resource-intensive investment.

John Cena’s Peacemaker Getting Own DCTV Show On HBO Max

DC Comics’ iconic superhero Peacemaker is still waiting for his live-action debut as part of “The Suicide Squad” blockbuster that is currently scheduled to hit the theaters at some point in 2021. In the meantime, HBO Max appears to have fallen in love with John Cena’s principal portrayal of the helmeted character as the TV giant just placed a direct-to-series order for an entire season of Peacemaker’s adventures.

DC Comics today announced this development, confirming that the series will be an HBO Max exclusive and that John Cena will be reprising his role from the upcoming Suicide Squad feature.

The latter project, directed by James Gunn as the latest part of the DC Extended Universe, finished filming back in late February and is currently well into the post-production phase of development. If it wasn’t for the bizarre circumstances that 2020 brought forward, DC Comics would have probably attached a concrete theater release date to the movie.

As for the aforementioned original series, the show is tentatively called “Peacemaker” and will enter active production at some point next year, DC Comics and HBO confirmed during today’s announcement. And it is pretty much a given that the first season of the show may not be its only one, depending on how well the series ends up being received by HBO’s audiences.

Disney+ Hit ‘The Mandalorian’ Wins Seven Emmy Awards

Disney could have hardly wished for a more impeccable start to its first-party streaming business. Its new on-demand video platform, Disney Plus (sometimes stylized as Disney+), debuted in late 2019 with a portfolio lead by a new original series called “The Mandalorian.”

That show, whose second season is now mere days away from releasing, outperformed pretty much all expectations from both critics and U.S. audiences alike. The latest milestone in its triumphant run is an absolutely dominant display at this year’s Emmy Awards, of which it took home no fewer than seven.

Its Emmy 2020 honors included the award for best short-form cinematography, outstanding production design across sitcom-sized narrative programming, sound editing, audio mixing, and – what else than – special visual effects. The ones we are missing celebrate the show’s stunt coordination and music composition. Further adding to the haul is the fact that Lucasfilm and Disney+ racked up another 8 nominations with The Mandalorian, for a total of 15.

Another related property, animated series Star Wars Resistance, was also nominated in the Outstanding Children’s Program category, which happens to be its second such acknowledgement in just over 12 months.

As for The Mandalorian, the second season of the show will be returning to Disney+ on the 30th of October.

You Can Now Buy Oculus Quest 2 In The U.S.

Oculus is now selling its newest virtual reality headset, the Oculus Quest 2, across the United States. The Facebook subsidiary announced the gadget just several weeks back, presenting it as the ultimate blend of accessibility and prowess.

In other words, you will not be asked to shell out a four-digit figure in order to get this thing rendering virtually immersive environments in your living room. Instead, you are looking at an introductory price of just $299, which is $100 cheaper than even the last generation of the Quest. Today’s development marks the start of the Oculus Quest 2 U.S. pre-orders, to be exact. Oculus says the first shipments will start arriving to customers by October 13th.

You can pre-purchase the VR headset directly through Oculus, but also get one from GameStop, Best Buy, Walmart, and Target in the U.S. and Canada. Thanks to a 50% resolution jump and newer processor from Qualcomm, as well as 6GB of RAM in total, the Oculus Quest 2 is said to be ready for the next generation of VR gaming and other experiences.

It will also allow for high refresh rates of up to 90Hz, and that feature should be available from the very first day.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Now Available To Buy In The U.S.

Samsung’s latest Android tablet, the Galaxy Tab A7, is now available to buy in the United States, the company’s American arm announced earlier today. The device in question is a mid-ranger in nearly every sense of that word, though it does decently at trying to hide that fact.

As a result, it features a modernized design with somewhat thin bezels, at least relative to the previous generation of the very same product family. Dolby Atmos support is on board as well, as is a 10.4-inch display contained within a slim, 7mm body that treads new ground in terms of portability, at least at this mid-range level of performance.

Of course, the Galaxy Tab A7 will be looking to rival Apple’s iPad Air series, and it might be a tough sell over any of those for the time being. Especially given the incoming arrival of the fourth-generation iPad Air models that promise a modernized design and improved performance over the previous models, which would address the latter’s two biggest shortcomings over a modern Android tablet in the vein of the Galaxy Tab A7.

Regardless, Samsung’s new slate is priced quite competitively as you can already order it for just $229.99, with shipments and in-store sales being scheduled to begin on October 8th.

Nintendo Direct Most Anticipated Announcements

Nintendo fans waited impatiently for the E3 Nintendo Direct presentation, and one of the anticipated announcements was about the new Switch gaming console. Unfortunately, the company didn’t deliver on that wish, but it did have some great news and games for fans. We did find out more about the Breath of the Wild sequel and got a presentation for games that are now out there or will be later this year.

Metroid Dread Shooting Platformer

The story continues after the events in the Metroid Fusion; again, you play as intergalactic bounty hunter Samus Aran. She came to the remote planet ZDR investigating a mysterious message sent to the Galactic Federation.

Unfortunately, the planet is in the hands of evil aliens and mechanical monsters known as The Extraplanetary Multiform Mobile Identifiers. Agile and with solid armour, Samus must run away. The game is the first 2D Metroid title in 19 years, and developers added new actions in a platformer-style shooter game available on October 8.

DLC that made the list

Nintendo Direct introduced some of the third-party developer updates, and one of the pivotal moments was the DLC for Bethesda’s Doom Eternal. The Ancient Gods is the first campaign expansion for one of the best FPS ports to the console. The original game had few known issues, almost no Nintendo Switch Error Codes, and life-like visuals so that Doom fans will get all this in this expansion. The Ancient Gods Part One expansion akes you through dimensions, and you must fight your way back to Urdak. Part Two of the expansion set will come out at the end of the year.

Nintendo 64 Boards Coming Back With Mario Party Superstars

While Metroid Dread brings out a new concept to a storied franchise, the newly announced Party game brings back well-known content from Nintendo 64 and the GameCube era. But, for now, it’s confirmed that we’ll see Peach’s Birthday Cake and Space Land among five Party boards.

There is also a massive collection of 100 minigames, all remastered and ready to play on Joy-Cons or Switch Pro controller. In addition, you can try playboards and minigames with up to four players on local and online multiplayer. The game got a release date of October 29.

BOTW2 Teaser

A cloud of expectation hovers over The Legends of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel. We saw the first glimpse into a much-anticipated game in 2019, and now Nintendo showed the second trailer. At the end of the video, there was a confirmation that we will see a new Zelda open-world game in 2022.

Besides the new dungeon design we witnessed in the first trailer, we now know that the game will have the Floating Cities we saw in Skyward Sword. In addition, we can expect larger maps and Link jumping and paragliding from cities in the sky in the kingdom of Hyrule.

Other notable games introduced on E3 include WarioWare: Get it Together, Shin Megami Tensei V, Strange Brigade and The Advance Wars 1+3 Re-Boot Camp that is coming to the Switch system. This news is not the last from the company this year, and the most significant announcement we could expect is about the successor to the Nintendo Switch console.

Dell’s First Pro Mini-LED Monitor Costs Five Grand,, Peaks At 1440p

Mini-LED panels may be the future of television, computer monitors, smartphone and tablet displays, or even all of those.

But that future isn’t here just yet. Not even close, in fact, as illustrated by the newly unveiled UltraSharp 32 HDR PremierColor professional monitor, Dell’s first such product to offer resolutions higher than the standard 1080p one.

Not that much higher, mind you, as the device caps out at 1400p, also known as 2K or 1440p resolution. Don’t let the relatively mundane-sounding resolution cap fool you into thinking this is something to pick up on your way from buying groceries after realizing you forgot it’s Christmas Eve and your estranged kids are coming over tomorrow.

First of all, situations like these are why they’re estrange in the first place, and secondly, the only way you can afford this thing is if your entire extended family chips in.

As the Dell UltraSharp 32 is priced at $4999, which isn’t that crazy for a professional color-grading monitor, but it’s pretty unusual to see such a device that doesn’t even do 4K, at least in this day and age. Of course, the tech will improve rapidly, as tech tends to do, so this won’t be true for much longer.

MSI Debuts 2020 Range Of PC Gaming Peripherals

As is often the case whenever the end of a calendar year appears close, consumer electronics companies are racing to release as many products that are somewhat pricey, but not to he point that they aren’t in the impulse purchase territory as possible. That was a mouthful of a sentence, but so is the list of new gadgets MSI will have in store for us across the United States, starting today.

Those include, but aren’t limited to the IMMERSE HS01 COMBO headset stand, doubling as a wireless charger, the CLUTCH GM20 ELITE wired gaming mouse, a pair of wired headphones called the IMMERSE GH61, and a new mechanical keyboard in the form of the VIGOR GK20. Official pricing details are still up in the air but expect the entirety of this new portfolio to be in the $70-$170 range, based on both precedent and MSI’s own track record. As the company will certainly be looking to push all of them hard this holiday season.

Oh, and all of these new devices will also be controllable via an entirely new software suite for Windows PC called the MSI Dragon Center, which appears to be pretty similar to what we’re already used to from Razer (Central, formerly Razer Synapse).

Electric Genesis eG80 EV Coming To The U.S. With Wireless Charging Support

The next electric car from Hyundai Motor Group-owned Genesis brand will also happen to be the subsidiary’s very first truly electric vehicle instead of a hybrid, the South Korean company revealed as part of a press release circulated this afternoon.

The EV in question bears a catchy name of eG80 and will offer a range of cutting-edge technologies, both in terms of hardware and software. One of those will be support for wireless charging, Genesis boastfully announced. The said solution is still being prototyped, though Hyunda’s EV arm at least did not venture into this highly experimental territory alone. Instead, it enlisted the help of wireless charging pioneers at WiTricity, a company which got its start back in 2007 as a spin-off backed by the renowned Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston.

WiTricity will be providing Genesis with the very latest and greatest hardware designed to enable practical wireless charging support for EV-specific use cases. Which is easier said than done, naturally, but the new SAE J2954 standard announced just last month by SAE International definitely shows promise, even if it lacks anything resembling dynamic application capabilities, i.e. what is widely believed to be the future of wireless charging tech in the EV space.

Either way, expect the Genesis eG80 to release in the U.S. near the end of 2021.

Adobe Surprises Premiere Rush Users With Royalty-Free Music, SFX Library

It’s not that Adobe isn’t known for offering generous trials across the entirety of its product portfolio but the company still managed to took many by surprise with its latest Premiere Rush update which introduced an entire library of royalty-free music and sound effects as part of the said mobile app for Android and iOS devices.

This marvelous piece of news, announced earlier today, happened thanks to Adobe’s partnership with Splice, an American multimedia asset platform for professional content creators that pretty much volunteered the free audio library in question.

The said addition to the already wide range of Premiere Rush capabilities includes hundreds of assets which you can access after updating your local installation to the latest version, the very same one that just began rolling out across the United States. Naturally, the app still aims to keep you inside Adobe’s ecosystem, and this addition also means you can expect to be offered thhe rest of the Splice service, currently available as a subscription starting at $7.99 per month, not accounting for a complimentary two-week trial period available to everyone free of charge, no questions asked.

As for the app itself, Premiere Rush is still free to download on both Android and iOS, as was always the case.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 Releases In The U.S.

The Galaxy Watch 3, Samsung’s very latest smartwatch running Tizen OS, is now available to buy across the United States. In addition to ordering one directly from Samsung, you can also place an order with pretty much every major electronics distributor in the country, including Best Buy, Walmart, and Target, as well as all national wireless carriers in Verizon Wireless, AT&T, and T-Mobile.

Prices start at $400 for the smaller, 41mm model, whereas the larger, 45mm one will set you back at least $430, not accounting for any potential promotions that you might be able to avail. On the other hand, we are also not accounting for any applicable sales tax that most U.S. customers will be expected to pay here.

Note that 4G LTE functionality is an optional extra that will cost a few additional dollars as both sizes of the new smartwatch can also be purchased in Wi-Fi-only configurations. There’s a lot of choice in terms of band customization options, at least, none of which will cost you an arm and a leg – unlike some notable competitors of Samsung’s.

Given the timing of this U.S. release, it is likely the Galaxy Watch 3 will be offered at some decent discounts closer to the end of the year.

Bentley Going All-In On EVs By 2030

Legendary luxury carmaker Bentley today announced that the fact it is rather late to the electric vehicle game means little because it intends to ditch gas engines just as quickly as the competition.

Or even faster than the competition, in fact

The company’s latest announcement was accompanied by a surprisingly detailed EV roadmap describing Bentley’s journey toward a more sustainable, eco-friendlier future. The company’s current plan is to be entirely end-to-end carbon neutral come 2030, which includes ceasing production of any and all vehicles with gas engines. By then, the luxury brand should achieve complete electrification.

There will be at least one stop-gap between that much-anticipated day and today. Namely, Bentley predicts it will still be producing at least one battery electric vehicle (BEV) or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) come 2026. So, it should be about halfway after about half of the predicted period is up… yup, sounds about right.

Meanwhile, Bentley continues to pursue PHEVs as it’s doing what it can to amass more experience in the segment. That is why it is planning to release no fewer than two such plug-in models next year, in addition to doubling down on hiring top engineering talent that will help make this historic transition to green transportation energy sources smoother.

Google Confirms It’s Killing Expeditions VR App

Expeditions was one of the first forays into the world of virtual reality entertainment for many early adopters of the tech. In no small part because it was available on Google Cardboard setups.

And just like the latter, it is now set to bite the dust in the very near future. As Google has just confirmed it will be killing the said app in the very near future. More specifically, we have just over half a year left to enjoy Expeditions in all their glory. Come June 30th of next year, the app will be pulled from both the Google Play Store and Apple’s iOS App Store.

On the bright side, a decent chunk of all VR expeditions originally made for the said piece of software are currently in the process of migrating to Arts & Culture, a newer standalone app from Google which is available on many of today’s most popular VR platforms.

Not all of them, mind you, and the exact list of those that won’t survive this technological shift has yet to be publicized, assuming Google even intends to detail the contents of its decision to such a degree. So, give Expeditions one last spin while you still can.

Marvel Honors Boseman After Black Panther Star’s Passing

Marvel Studios honored Chadwick Boseman after the actor’s sudden passing. The star of Black Panther (2018) was only 43 when he lost a four-year battle with stage IV colon cancer. He kept his illness private until the very end, sometimes going to great lengths to do so, his closest family revealed in a statement.

Marvel opted to honor this tragically untimely departure with a new cover designed by its Director of Visual Development, Mr. Ryan Meinerding. The illustration immortalizes Boseman with a handful of depiction of his most famous role. Besides that, the tribute includes a drawing of Boseman’s widely publicized Commencement speech that he gave at his alma mater, the Washington, D.C.-based Howard University back in 2018.

Besides Mr. Meinerding, Black Panther director, Ryan Coogler, also did an homage to the late actor in the form of a touching public letter celebrating the South Carolina-born artist’s life and achievements. After debuting in the role of the iconic Black Panther as part of the Captain America: Civil War cast back in 2016, Mr. Boseman went on to star in the titular MCU blockbuster two years later.

The movie amassed seven Academy Awards nominations and won three. He returned for Avengers: Infinity War released that same year. His final reprisal of the role was filmed for the Oscar-nominated Avengers: Endgame released in 2019.

The Wolverine Given Disney+ U.S. Release Date

The Walt Disney Studios today officially announced the date on which the 2013 blockbuster “The Wolverine” will be hitting its recently introduced on-demand video platform. The said movie will be making its way to Disney Plus on the 4th of September, which is only three days from now.

This long-awaited rerelease won’t be the only high-profile movie to make its way to Disney Plus this month. Namely, not long after The Wolverine’s Friday release, we will be getting treated to yet another season of Marvel Superhero Adventures, a popular animated series the company has been co-producing in collaboration with Atomic Cartoons since 2017.

This is going to be the fourth season of the show to make its way to Disney Plus. Its streaming debut is scheduled for the 18th of September, Marvel Studios confirmed in a statement. In related news, Disney pulled the plug on the free trial program that previously allowed anyone in the United States to enjoy a full month’s worth of its entertainment library.

That privilege will now set you back at least $7 a month, or $12.99 if you want to bundle this subscription alongside unlimited access to ESPN+ and Hulu, the company’s other two premium media properties.
